Paper Abstract:
|
Many search engines do not effectively support searches with imprecise or open information needs, such as in the case
for exploratory video searches. The information seekers lack of domain knowledge in exploratory searches convolutes
the search process. Search interfaces are generally developed to support high-level search activities like query
formulation. The purpose of this study is to gather ideas and opinions from experts from different fields to develop design
concepts and interface features for exploratory video search interfaces. The findings suggest that visual maps can be used
to present the structure of the domain of interest and to support exploration of the concept of interest. These maps also
support knowledge construction and hence aid in the extension of concepts in the search. |
