Paper Abstract:      Using image analyzing techniques to automate crowd control can save manpower usage and reduce human mistakes due to careless negligence. Due to the occlusion between front and backward objects, accurate head counting on frontal view type images may be a very difficult task. In this paper, we propose to use a gray-level gradient technique on overheadview images for head-top counting and tracking in a crowded scene. The experiment results show that for both sparse and crowded situations, the proposed method can achieve 91% to 94% of correct counting rates.
