Paper Abstract:      This paper explores Knowledge Management system development with a multi-part focus based upon increasing process efficiency, standardization of a complex set of data, centralization of research and supporting documentation and transparency of the data promoting increased accuracy and efficiency within the Ecological Risk Assessment Community of Practice. The Environmental Sciences Department of West Texas A&M University, under a grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ),is developing an interactive web-based system called the Protective Concentration Level calculator (PCL) which performs complex environmental risk calculations while facilitating the rapid analysis of and subsequent modification of the result. In this paper we discuss the aggregation of diverse data sources into a comprehensive data repository composed of relational data tables synchronized with documentary substantiation in the form of toxicological profiles and individual species chemical uptake documents. We describe web application and database design elements, data integrity and effective user interface development.
