Paper Abstract:
|
This paper, part of an ongoing research into a comparative study of distance and non distance learning, focuses on a novel method of delivering business management coursework at the University of La Rochelle in France, initiated in September 2009. It tries to examine some of the pedagogical questions raised by the use of a blended learning approach, made up of a dominantly asynchronous and partially synchronous mode, where learner presence on the campus is required only during terminal exams, on teacher-learner relations as well as learner outcomes. The design and delivery of course contents, the departure from conventional lecturer-centric on-campus instructional styles, the possible gains in the area of learner autonomy, self-study and empowerment as well as some fundamental questions on how on-line courses manage learner relationships to knowledge and knowledge acquisition will be explored with examples taken from the teaching of Business English. |
