Paper Abstract:
|
This paper argues for a reconceptualisation of the notion of privacy due to the impact that new and emerging technolo-gies (many of them being information and communication technologies) are having. The existing conceptual and legal framework was shaped in a time that was radically different from the networked society in which we live today. The values to be protected, however, remain generally accepted. Thus it is necessary to reflect what privacy will mean in the future and how it can be more effectively being protected. The authors argue in favour of a privacy impact assessment framework, perhaps one that also factored in ethical considerations. |
