Paper Abstract:      This paper presents a method for photometric registration of 3D models in an interactive augmented reality (AR) application. Therefore, we use Image-based Lighting (IBL). IBL is a method, which uses an image of the environment in order to improve the appearance of a 3D model. It facilitates a seamless integration of 3D models into the real world. The integration of IBL into an AR application is a balance act between a high frame rate and rendering quality. A high rendering quality reduces the frame rate. To achieve real time, we explore a common set of techniques, which approximate the physical correct simulation of light, but facilitate a believable appearance of 3D models. The techniques have been implemented and tested.
