Paper Abstract:      The LIS profession, and with it LIS education, must respond to the fundamental changes in the information world brought by rapid advances in technology and by the rise of the information society in conjunction with the information economy. The shift from product and library focus to process and content focus calls for fundamental understanding of the concept of the value of information and information economics. This knowledge is required by all information stakeholders in order to adjust to and manage the digital environment and its implications. In this research we explore the attitudes of students, lecturers, and practitioners concerning the possibility of developing the LIS curriculum to include a larger component of information economics. We report on research in progress – preliminary results will be available on time for the eSociety 2006 conference.
