Paper Abstract:
|
In knowledge economy, knowledge underlies every human endeavor. It relates to the often repeated slogan, that
knowledge runs business. The dimensions of such a system are the set of all pertinent knowledge domains. In particular,
we need to focus on the use of pertinent knowledge engaged by a system in order to achieve its purpose. Evolution and
growth in the pertinent knowledge domains are localizable sources of change. Both these evolutionary pressures can be
traced into the co-evolution of the system. The systems that are of interest currently in this paper are businesses meaning
a business organization inclusive of its information system.
What is the area of study and enquiry to which the world of business belongs? How do we differentiate good business
from bad business? How do we diagnose the malady that afflicts a business? What prognosis will lead to a cure of this
malady? What transformation will administer the cure and monitor the improvement in the business, carefully adjusting
the prognosis on the way through regular review? The above questions need deep introspection. They concern the
purpose of a business and its governance as seen from the outside. And they concern the structures that facilitate the
inner workings of an operating business so as to assert a desirable external view. Only such an approach and attitude has
the potential to design information systems that are synchronous with changing business organizations. |
