Paper Abstract:
|
This proposal seeks to advocate the value of personal experience method for the IS research community. It reviews its backdrop in relation to inductive/deductive reasoning, and positivist/interpretivist epistemology. Particular focus is placed on the historical understanding of technical rationality and positivism that has been dominating academic research for centuries and how our research community can be benefited by an alternative research method. The central objective is to encourage IS researchers to seek alternative methods for different research contexts and phenomenon. Drawing from the notion of reflection in action and reflective practice, the paper finally suggests how personal experience method can be an interesting and insightful alternative consideration for the IS research community. |
