Paper Abstract:      Over the past years, several software applications have been used to provide cognitive training (CT) to people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related disorders, and to help them maintain their cognitive skills, self-esteem and autonomy as long as possible. However, there is limited literature on usability testing concerning such software and its end-users. This paper describes work in progress of usability testing of a prototype software application for CT conceived for persons with mild-to-moderate AD. Six AD patients aged between 78- 87, were recruited to participate in four test sessions. The results which highlight the usability problems related to cognitive impairment, allowed a better understanding of the users’ skills, and contributed to improve the software ergonomics. Finally, some considerations concerning usability testing with elderly with cognitive impairment are discussed.
