Paper Abstract:
|
The purpose of this work is to show the differences between a classic WebGIS application and an AJAX-based WebGIS
application. For the aims of our paper we have described first of all what a GIS (Geographic Information System) is,
paying particular attention to the WebGIS application and showing their usefulness and use for a collaborative project
between Tor Vergata University and Protezione Civile of Calabria.
GIS first aim, in this project, is to help information retrieval (such as maps, meteorological data, etc
) in real time
allowing faster time to intervention and better decision-making in natural disaster scenarios. We have created an our
implementation of a WebGIS application based on the integration with a new web model called AJAX; this allows us to
have better efficiency and powerful performance for our application. Finally we have compared in some test, using a
specific tool, our application with the one in use at Protezione Civile of Calabria to prove our guess. |
