Paper Abstract:      This paper explores issues related to operational use evaluation of Information Technology – sometimes referred to as post implementation IT evaluation. Two most commonly known types of IT evaluations were explored; prior implementation evaluation and operational use evaluation. This paper discusses the latter in more detail. The paper presents a study where a sample of organisations have been surveyed with regard to their operational use implementation policies. Organisations in the sample belong to sectors such as financial services, information technology, manufacturing, transport, central government, consultancy, computer manufacturing, retail/wholesaling, publishing and others. The aim of the study is to elicit and assess the extent to which operational use evaluation is practiced. A second objective is to identify the barriers against implementing this method of evaluation. Findings suggest that operational use evaluation is thought to be important for organisations, hence, this and other research might be of assistance.
