Paper Abstract:
|
Near Field Communication (NFC) continues to be pushed forward as the next technological jump for mobile devices. This emerging technology makes use of existing technology called Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and integrates it into mobile devices so that each is capable of reading and write data to each other within a close proximity. The practical applications this technology will have on mobile devices are already evident as existing devices enabled with NFC double up as virtual payment cards and loyalty cards. As NFC becomes more common within mobile devices it is inevitable that mobile devices will also be more commonly targeted by malicious attacks, this paper looks at how NFC is currently used, what benefits it provides and portrays how NFC could be used in the future. The paper also looks at the security benefits and issues surrounding NFC and ultimate determines that NFCs arrival into handheld devices appears inevitable. |
