Paper Abstract:      The main aim of our paper is to describe how information society and especially the use of ICTs change the practices in Finnish schools. As a starting point we recap how the information society policies are shown in the strategy instruments steering the educational system: what are the potential solutions to support teacher’s work related to the practices of the digital age so far, and how these practices are reflected in the recent Finnish national core curricula for basic education and for upper secondary schools. Basing on the case study in City of Tampere, the insights of the grassroots level implications of the strategies are offered. Finally we demonstrate what kind of support the new forms of co-operation on business, university and government levels can provide for the ICT practice development in schools. As a new approach to foster the emergence of the more diverse and more developed use of the ICTs in the upper secondary school environment, the Sampo action research project is presented.
