Paper Abstract:      The smart home is not a novel idea anymore. Although we still mainly use the classical ways of controlling our house, like switches, buttons and dimmers, modern interfaces are becoming more popular each day. This is the case for mobile devices, which have the cumulative advantages of being intuitive, ubiquitous, customizable and portable. In this paper, we present a case study of developing a mobile application for controlling a smart home. The mobile application was implemented using open source tools and can work on a variety of mobile devices. The application features basic functionalities that are needed in a smart home and was tested on a real smart home system developed in the lab.
