Paper Abstract:      Biomedical theory is often expressed in formal, usually dynamic mathematical models. However, these models rarely find their way into clinical practice. We review a number of projects where models of the underlying system are put to use to improve healthcare and find that such an approach can have advantages above alternative strategies. We discuss the obstacles to this approach and we conclude that it can fit in the paradigm of Evidence-Based Medicine.
