Paper Abstract:
|
Both social support and interventions based on the Transtheoretical Model (TTM) show success in promoting behavior change. This positional paper briefly reviews the research literature of social support, TTM and computer- mediated communication (CMC) that indicates the importance of incorporating informal online social support to enhance or facilitate the TTM processes of change for weight loss and weight maintenance in the long-term. Research plans are discussed to help produce an augmented TTM and explore how informal social support works via online communities. The long-term aim of the research is to identify how to effectively incorporate informal social support into TTM-based social marketing campaigns as a means to improve weight management in the long-term. |
