Paper Abstract:
|
The demand for mobile health (mHealth) information by todays wireless users has never been greater. Apart from proprietary applications, linked to pharmacies and other medical and wellness service providers, a widely-used simple health and wellness symptom checker is not yet available. A mHealth symptom checker, envisioned with basic diagnostics and using location information, was designed to provide first-level diagnosis and direction for users seeking information regarding their self-reported health and wellness symptoms. This research project used human computer interaction (HCI) principles to develop a user-centered mHealth symptom checker to narrow the user inquiries and provide prompt information based on the symptoms reported by the users. A user evaluation, based on the System Usability Scale (SUS) and the Usability Metric for User Experience LITE (UMUX-LITE), was conducted. The results show the mHealth application was well-regarded by users, who appreciated the accessible interface design and location-specific information provided. Plans are for further development of the mHealth application and integration with heath care sites, including urgent care clinics and hospitals to provide users with responsive, personalized care from the mHealth application. |
