Paper Abstract:
|
Traditional curriculum in art and design is expanded by new paradigms in mobile learning. The social, co-operative use
of mobile technologies demonstrates ways that methods can be reimagined and repurposed for new communities of
mobile learners. Social-geographic and ethnographic research approaches contribute to this knowledge, and include
participant adoption, adaptation, and change. This paper reports on the emerging innovative, and practical uses of a wide
variety of locative media in the design of experiences for mobile learning. Questions concerning design research
methods, serious and social gaming, learning environments, and the pedagogy of mobile learning are beginning to
diverge. The social nature of mobile use opens up possibilities for innovative research and creation, and thus new
teaching and learning opportunities within mobile, sociable contexts. Research is conducted in workshops and design
charettes, where the collaborative roles of students and researchers as participatory learners and designers, is crucial and
complementary to both the design process and the learning experience. |
