Paper Abstract:      Nowadays, many enterprises must go through the integration of their heterogeneous information systems, an endeavour in which one of the main activities is semantic integration. In fact, the semantic integration process, implicit or explicitly handled, is a central piece within any Enterprise Information System integration project. This paper presents, discusses and locates semantic integration issues within the context of the phases, processes and tasks of a recently introduced Enterprise Information Systems integration method. In this way, the method, that we have developed based on practical experience and by following the method engineering ontology set up by the new ISO/IEC 24744 standard, is extended with the explicit consideration of semantic integration. However, rather than addressing in-depth semantic integration issues, in this paper we provide a contextualization and analysis for it within enterprise IS integration projects in general, and in particular we propose their consideration and location in our own method. Moreover, we also identify and propose methodological elements to facilitate continuous learning along the complete life cycle of our method, and of Enterprise Information Systems projects in general.
