Paper Abstract:      Using ADTs for the design and development of software is a solid approach that supports sound principles of best practices. However, the step towards building actual tools for the support of the full task of development and maintenance using this technology has not been taken or is far from being in a form that is accessible to most programming practitioners. We propose J-DATS as a tool to help on the design and the repetitive execution of tests for ADTs developed in Java, as well as for the decoupling of design and implementation of software, taking advantage of some standard features of this language. We demonstrate the use of J-DATS taking two approaches: one follows the classical ideal situation where a development process starts by a specification phase, the other presents a scenario for adopting already existing software for its integration into a local project in a reliable way.
