Paper Abstract:	The dynamic advent of technology and innovation are compelling financial service providers in South Africa to rethink and possess a requisite level of Information Systems (IS) capabilities. Frequently, these modifications result in significant disturbances within the service providers. This paper provides insights into the role of IS capability on the process of digital transformation in financial service providers, operating within the context of South Africa as an emerging economy. The paper employs IS capability model and the Technological, Organizational, and Environmental (TOE) framework as theoretical lenses. Interpretive research philosophy is followed in conjunction with a case study as a research strategy. The study findings underscore the significance of robust IS capabilities in generating corporate business value. The paper further highlights that the existing financial service providers' IS capabilities can either facilitate or impede the process of digital transformation. Additionally, the technological, organizational, and environmental contexts of financial service provider as well as those related to resource dependency, play a pivotal role in the successful and the desired digital transformation. This paper argues for the importance of context sensitivity in the realization of IS capability driven business value and the digital transformation within the South African financial service providers.
