Paper Abstract:
|
Tools extend our capabilities far beyond what our natural bodies accomplish. Because of them we can travel faster and
further, communicate over greater distances, lift heavier objects, and so on. Books even allow us to listen to dead people
from distant times and places. My interest in tools is their effects on our thinking, and especially how different tools have
different effects. We focus on software based externalization tools and how they influence the level of confirmation bias
of their user. While it seems that heuristics cause biases, the fundamental question we consider is if externalization tools
do so as well. |
