Paper Abstract:      The distance education is a teaching-learning process that happens in different places and different times instead of the traditional classroom. In this modality of education, the communication is made by a range of different media. Among them, the Internet is reffered as a major tool for communication in the educational process and to the management support. In this perspective we surpass the model of Universidade Aberta do Brasil – UAB system (Open University of Brazil), which was based on CEDERJ Consortium and is deemed as pioneer institution that offers, in Brazil, free higher education with quality in the form of distance education. The CEDERJ is a consortium of several public universities in the Rio de Janeiro State and has an online platform that can be considered as a mixture of Learning Management System (LMS) and Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). This article reports a case study of use of the current platform CEDERJ about their features and applications in the Bachelor's Degree in Education.
