Paper Abstract:

In the popular game genre called MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game), having social interaction between players is a part of the gameplay experience. In this paper we study how the communication service in MMORPGs influences the gameplaying experience for the players. We conducted a subjective experiment to study the interaction between players during a gaming session. The experiment used a PC based MMORPG, Age of Conan, developed by Funcom. Based on the collected data, we analyze how the type of communication services affects some factors of MMORPGs that contribute to the gameplay experience. Our study suggests that using VoIP increases the communication quality and user experience among gamers. |
