Paper Abstract:      The introduction of mobile learning in HEIs in Malaysia appears to be a natural course of action with the precipitate increase in rates of mobile phone ownership amongst HEI students. This paper reports on a preliminary study to identify the type of mobile learning activities that would be deemed acceptable by Malaysian HEI students. A questionnaire was distributed to assess the understanding of a group of 73 teacher trainees about the function of their mobile phones. The students’ reflections via their respective blogs were also extracted in order to gauge their perception of new mobile learning activities that were introduced in a workshop. In a nutshell, the students are ready to accept mobile learning as part of support of their studies. In particular they preferred SMS being very mindful of the costs of downloading data though podcasting and ebooks were also popular.
