Paper Abstract:
|
In this qualitative case study conducted in one rural area in New Zealand (NZ) to investigate how ICT infrastructure
provision was affecting the community. Eight participants were interviewed to gather information about their experiences
and perceptions of ICT provision in this community which is about one hours drive from Auckland (the largest city in
New Zealand). This rural community is a typical large land mass/small population area. Multiple factors were considered
including empowerment of individuals as well as the community, rural economic development, the social rural-urban
divide, rural ICT knowledge base, and rural access to ICT infrastructure. Results suggest that improvements to the
technical ICT infrastructure into this rural district of New Zealand would benefit the community economically, socially
and educationally. |
