Paper Abstract:      Focusing on technology-based micro-entrepreneurship in Economically Developing Regions (EDRs), this paper explores ICT-based micro-entrepreneurship for economic development in South Africa. We provide details on the impact of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) on micro-entrepreneurial activity and discuss its opportunities and challenges for entrepreneurial business models. We introduce a micro-franchise business model concept for what is referred to as a mobile (micro) cinema. A low cost distribution of media content to the mobile cinemas is based on Delay Tolerant Network (DTN) infrastructure. DTNs exploit public transportation vehicles and Wireless LAN to securely transport content towards micro entrepreneurs throughout the EDR. We introduce a socio-economic analysis focusing on factors that may influence the success of a technology-based micro-entrepreneur.
