Paper Abstract:
|
Although a small country, Portugal faces many difficulties in providing mental healthcare services to children and adolescents. Kids, teens and their families need to travel long distances just to to get to specialized developmental centers in order to attend their consultations. Besides, due to the European financial crisis, many people are leaving Portugal to find better conditions in other countries. This means additional stress for children and adolescents with special needs. The iCare Prjoect aims at bridging the gap between patients and specialists. For that, four main goals intend to make the therapeutic experience possible, no matter how far patients and families are. The goals are: a) onlise sessions, b) website dedicated to developmental disorders, c) Massive Open Online Course (MOOC); d) development of applications. With this integrated methodology, the major goal of the iCare Project is to allow children, adolescents, their families and healthcare professionals to have a powerful integrated tool which meets their healthcare needs and overcomes economic, geographical and time barriers. |
