Paper Abstract:
|
The paper reflects the way in which education was provided by the apartheid government. South African education system was divided into racial, ethnic and cultural background. The Whites minority government determined how education should be administered to other racial and ethnic groups. This paper uses Labarees Three Education Goal Theory to examine how far we are in terms of addressing the imbalances and inequalities of the past as the new democratic government. While South Africa is almost 16 years away from the legacy of apartheid regime of divide and rule segregated education systems, the realities of millions of African students and educators remain unequal in the still unequal society. Thus, understanding the goals of education in the multicultural societies is a proponent of democratic education. |
