Paper Abstract:      In order to ensure full semantic interoperability and knowledge management in healthcare information systems, harmonization between messaging and Electronic Health Record (EHR) standards is essential. Open-EHR, an archetype based EHR model, is possibly one of the best candidates for providing EHR standards. HL7, on the other hand, is undoubtedly the most widely used message communication standard in health care information systems. An important aspect of harmonizing between these two standards is the mapping between the data types. In this paper, we investigated the possibilities of conceptual mapping between the data types of HL7 and the data types of Open-EHR while providing some useful comments.
