Paper Abstract:
|
Open-source software is making promises of bringing the world together on a common digital platform, as these
unfettered technologies permeate across the 'core' and the 'periphery' (Wallerstein, 1979), bridging the digital divide,
molding a world that could be flat (Friedman, 2005). However, in all the promises of a globalized world, what we may
miss noticing currently are those small contours, shaping local pockets across the diversity of cultures and languages of
the world. The world may not be flat, after all because there are growing cultural divides, complementing a closing
digital divide. |
