Paper Abstract:
|
In an age of digital learners, students are benefiting from educational tools that are innovative, engaging and inclusive. The GigaPan technology is being adopted and adapted by classroom teachers and other educational organizations around the world to promote technological literacy, as well as to encourage collaborative relationships between students, teachers and communities. With the simplicity of its technology, GigaPan is reaching isolated locations and empowering people to work in partnership towards an ultimate goal of bringing the world closer together. The GigaPan, a small robotic device, enables students to use a simple digital camera to create high-resolution, panoramic images that include a level of detail up to this point invisible in conventional photographs. In this paper, the GigaPans potential will be illustrated through two classroom examples: one in a rural area of West Virginia, USA and the other in the city of Valdivia, Chile. This paper also includes GigaPan learning objectives and classroom participation guidelines for teachers interested in implementing their own GigaPan curriculum. |
