Paper Abstract:      In hardware design, the verification's stage is an essential and challenging task. At this stage the verification team can assure the hardware's integrity exciting its functionalities and analyzing their responses. This stage requires a thorough check in the shortest time and corresponds to the biggest bottleneck in a hardware design. The VeriSC methodology optimizes the generation of functional verification environment, however its data generation is repetitive and explores part of the search space. In this paper, we propose a novel improvement in VeriSC methodology data generation using Genetic Algorithms and feedback approach. The data generation will explore most of the search space allowing a more thorough and robust verification. A module of a MPEG decoder is used as a case study. The final results not only show that the proposed approach can achieve functional coverage with good performance, but also show that the execution time is similar or better to the former method used in VeriSC methodology. These results suggest that the genetic algorithm approach explores the search space better than older approach. The data generation performed can also be used in others methodologies without any problem.
