Paper Abstract:
|
This paper presents the results of an empirical study on the usability of in-vehicle information devices in an international
context. Chinese and German users were presented with experimental prototypes of a navigation system that were
structured either according to German users mental models of a navigation system or according to Chinese users mental
models. Users orientation within the menu structure of the prototypes and subjective workload when operating the
prototypes were measured. Results indicate that both the Chinese and the German user group had more problems finding
their way within the menu structure and suffered from higher workload when using the prototype that was based on the
other groups mental model. |
