Paper Abstract:
|
3D polyline generation and manipulation is a considerable topic of interest in geometric modeling applications. Polylines
on triangle meshes are used to trace surface shape features, for surface chartification for parameterization , morphing or
registration purposes, for low-cost rendering, etc. The smoothness of a polyline depends heavily on the underlying
triangle mesh as it is composed of a number of edges belonging to the mesh. Since the mesh is of discrete nature, mesh
irregularities lead to the generation of irregularly shaped polylines. In this paper, a simple and efficient algorithm for
polyline smoothing is described. We propose a linear smoother that performs geometrical and topological optimization
and present the early results. |
