Paper Abstract:
|
Imagine a game that you could play without having to actively engage it. Imagine a game story that develops and unfolds based upon your actions in the real world. Further, imagine that this interactive game fiction is multiplayer so you can see and interact with other in-game characters as a result of meeting players in the real world. This project successfully implements a dynamic narrative generation system that maps real-world actions of users into in-game narrative elements and supports multiple players. Furthermore, we decouple the theme of the narrative from the core game mechanics. As a result, each user not only gets a customized narrative based upon their real-world actions, but the narratives theme can be chosen on a per-user basis; for example one users theme might be cyberpunk whereas another users narrative theme might be high-fantasy. Of particular interest is that our system allows this change in theme on a per-user basis while still enabling the users to interact with each other in the game world. |
