Paper Abstract:      Smartphone usage is low in Japan, compared to other countries around the world. In particular, there are disparities between genders, with the use of smartphones occurring at a lower rate among women than men. The purpose of this paper is to assess whether there are also gender-based differences associated with the use of tablets, other mobile devices and apps, and, if so, to explain these differences. Based on the results of this study, no gender-based differences were found for about half of the mobile devices studied, or for apps including Facebook and other social networking service (SNS). As for items that did have gender-based differences, it was found that they were often used more frequently by women.
