Paper Abstract:
|
The paper presents a survey on a case of full migration to open source operating systems and applications in the
educational area of all Italian-speaking schools in the autonomous Province of Bolzano (elementary, middle, high
schools; approximately 16.000 students). It is a unique case, in the Italian panorama and, to the best of our knowledge, in
the European one as well, of generalized migration to open software in the schools of a region which previously made
extensive use of proprietary software. The paper presents project settlement and outcomes of an investigation conducted
on the teachers involved, after one year of experimentation. Goals already reached and critical points, together with future
perspectives, are discussed. Despite widespread opinions, the main critical factors in such kind of migration are not to be
expected only in the technical area but also in management and motivational area, related to human factors. |
