Paper Abstract:
|
After some years working with blended learning, the authors have begun experiencing with mobile learning and exploring its many possibilities. We have a Learning Management System (LMS) for each of the subjects we teach, all of them connected to English as a second language, and these LMS have been enriched with the Mobile Learning Engine plug-in. Thanks to MLE, some of the activities in our LMSs can be accessed from the students´ mobile devices. So far, we have started several projects. The nature of the first one is general: we integrate links between the explanations given in class and the activities in the LMS which are relevant for them. The second has been developed for a subject called English Phonology: we use the mobile device to send and receive phonological transcriptions, using two features called the Flashcard Trainer and the Virtual keyboard. Finally, and most importantly, we are exploiting a project on digital storytelling launched by us last year. The students are asked to create stories according to a closely-knit rubric, stories which are later sent to their peers´ mobile devices to be graded and to be used as the starting point for a classroom debate. Although the project is still far from being completed, results so far are promising. |
