Paper Abstract:      Recently, progress of Web search engines makes it easier for users to find the information they want. However, there are some situations when it is difficult to find good information. For example, it is difficult to find how-to information such as recipe, installation of software, and procedure. Hence, we propose a method to search for how-to information on the Web. The algorithm consists of two parts, extracting how-to information blocks and ranking them on the basis of readability. We extract how-to information blocks by using the HTML structure and the patterns describing how-to information. We rank how-to information on the basis of readability from two viewpoints, detail-level and outline-level. In the experiments, we evaluated the ranking algorithm by rank correlation between the rankings by our readability score and by the examinees for several queries.
