Paper Abstract:      One of the most important keys in user interfaces design and evaluation is how to measure usability. A wide variety of usability methods classified into effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction have been proposed to measure usability. We propose a new preliminary usability method based on probabilities which estimates how likely a user could find the information he is looking for on the web. This method could be included in the group of effectiveness. There are many usability variables that could have an influence where some are subjective and others objective. In this paper we decided to focus the method on four objective variables of usability which are the amount of information per screen, position on the screen, position inside the menu and number of steps. We considered this usability variables due to the following reasons respectively: their impact at first sight, users tend to find the information in certain areas on the web site like some common web objects, the variation in menu length could aid decision time and decrease the number of errors in information retrieval, and because as much deeply the information is the user could get lost easily.
