Paper Abstract:
|
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems have become one of the largest IT investments in recent years. Previous research reports unusually high failure in ERP projects, especially in developing countries. The aim of this study is to extend our understanding of ERP implementation in organizations in Thailand by identifying technological factors that affecting ERP implementation. Longitudinal case studies were undertaken to understand the implementation of ERP system. Data was collected by conducting in-depth interviews at various levels of the subject organizations, by observation and by examining their archived records when available. The result reveals that technological factors including strategic role of IT, BPR and customization, IT readiness, system integration, and data conversion and system testing deserve more attention during the implementation of ERP projects. Some actions are also recommended that can help bring troubled ERP projects under control. |
