Paper Abstract:
|
The notion of autonomy is related both to freedom to act in pursuit of a desire and freedom to form desires independently. In this paper, semantics are introduced that are used to write goals that are interpreted by agents at run time to produce context specific desires which have not been anticipated at design time by a programmer. This system of goal generation is linked to constructive planning in an open system to provide an agent with autonomy in the sense that it is able to choose how it is going to execute its goals and also devise the goals that it is going to pursue [Beavers & Hexmoor2003]. The semantics developed are described using an illustrative example, but we present a description of how we have implemented the system into a BDI agent framework and then used it to develop a prototype application that solves a real world business problem. |
