Paper Abstract:
|
This paper outlines evidence-based design choices made for Tangerine®:Class, an open-source mobile application developed by RTI International, optimized for Android tablets and smartphones. Tangerine:Class assists teachers in low-resource settings in the recording, analysis and use of results from continuous early reading assessments to enhance instruction and student reading acquisition. Findings from studies spanning nearly 25 years of research in the field of technology-assisted curriculum based measurement are outlined in light of the use of Tangerine:Class in a randomized controlled trial in 40 schools in Kenya throughout the 2013 school year. Results from the Kenya trial indicate that the mobile technology intervention had a statistically significant effect on increased reading outcomes. |
