Paper Abstract:      The concept of corporate social responsibility as a self-regulation system has been included in public companies, which are voluntarily committed to the economic, social, and environmental impacts of their performance. Among these enterprises are public broadcasters, whose legislation is urging them to implement this system. This article aims at analysing corporate social responsibility –CSR- strategies of European state public broadcasters in order to know their degree of environmental involvement. Only nine of the EU-28 public state broadcasters issue CSR annual reports with information on environmental performance. This study is focused on the issues proposed by the Global Reporting Initiative to analyse environmental responsibility: use of paper and water, impact of inks and printing materials, recycling policies, greenhouse gas emissions and measures to be environmentally sound. The methodology, based on the content analysis of the CSR reports from nine broadcasters, has revealed that there is a growing ecological awareness, but there is a lack of defined policies and strategies for impact reduction.
