Paper Abstract:
|
Practice has shown improperness of reductionism for explaining the nature of information systems. Instead we have to
identify specific rules based on actual experiences and develop corresponding theories. In this article an attempt is made
to achieve that by assuming existence of commonalities between complex artificial systems and living systems.
Possibilities for transforming information systems into desired direction as integral parts of living enterprises are
explored in particular. Benefits of using life metaphor will be discussed from constructive viewpoint. Ontology of living
enterprise can be built based on that and the role of its information system clarified. The need for specific transformations
for enlivenment becomes evident, which could be done best by appropriate development organisations and tools. Ways of
measuring the success of transformations and case studies will be discussed. |
