Paper Abstract:      Evidence-based medical knowledge is deemed important for effective decision making at point of care in healthcare industry. Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) are being developed to bring best evidence based practices at point of care. To make efficient use of such evidence based knowledge, it has been argued that effective computerization of CPG is needed so as to use them with clinical decision support systems. Context-sensitivity, semantic relevancy, and important meta-info pertaining to CPGs’ knowledge content are effective in CPGs computerization. These attributes play important role for identifying and retrieving contextually sensitive and semantically relevant knowledge from CPGs. Such knowledge computerization requires (i) a knowledge management framework, (ii) a set of information extraction algorithms, and (iii) efficient engineering strategies and implementation techniques. In this paper, we present used engineering techniques and developed medical term-identification methods for CPG computerization. We also describe the functional workflow of the developed techniques together with implementation of our CPG-knowledge computerization framework.
