Paper Abstract:
|
This paper discusses the formative evaluation of an Electronic Performance Support System (EPSS) to monitoring teachers and students on administrative and account management tasks in organizations with generating job tasks in the current format. The context is Portugal which, in addition to being a developing country, is experiencing rapid change. Much of this change impacts severely on middle management. There are two reasons for this; firstly, affirmative action leads to a hasty replacement of experienced managers with less experienced managers. Secondly there has been a marked exodus of expertise from Portugal in the form of the so-called "brain drain". Thus, the objective of this article is twofold. Firstly it will examine the current literature concerning EPSS, and secondly it will discuss a pilot project, launched by a major corporation, and report on initial results. The study is empirical and the methodology is qualitative, based primarily on interviews with users of the product. Although the results cannot be generalized, they provide good initial support that EPSS could go some way towards schedule for monitoring educational tasks. |
