Paper Abstract:
|
With the advance of ubiquitous computing environments, more convenient and personalized intelligent services can be possible. While we can enjoy comfortable life thanks to the new ubiquitous computing environments, various types of adverse effects may be emerged at the same time. Among these side effects of information society, privacy invasion through pervasive devices will be one of the most serious problems in ubiquitous society. From the business perspective, customer information needs to be protected and companies need to stay trustworthy to both current and potential customers. In the ubiquitous age, privacy will be a matter of trade-offs about pros and cons of revealing personal information for personalized services. This trade-offs are the realm of economics. Even though many people regard the privacy issue as just the matter of social or individual problems, privacy issue is a definitely economic problem. However, now we don't have proper framework or methodology for measuring the economic value of privacy. In this paper, we present a framework for measuring the economic value of privacy and we hope this framework will be used as one of tools for protecting users in the ubiquitous age. |
